Our Hawaiian monk seal mom and pup are back. In this picture, you can see how much weight pup has gained. Compare her now to the picture when she was one day old.. (Scroll down or click on the link.) Our little girl has packed on the pounds. She is nowhere near as long as mom, but she is nearly as round. She will need this extra weight to live on once mom leaves and before pup figures out how to forage on her own.
Also, pup has started to shed her black, baby fur, as her adult, grey hair pushes through. I found patches of black fuzz on the beach after they vacated their sleeping pad for the water. It’s as soft as you would expect.
